Scenario
When a man returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a group of local surfers who claim the secluded beach of his childhood as their own. Received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The story unfolds as Cage arrives at a beach that holds great meaning to him, but when he is ridiculed and banned from surfing there with his son, it sets off a series of events that become increasingly disconnected from reality, leading the audience to question even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I appreciate is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to stick with a venture we have invested in even when the current costs exceed the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how difficult it is to step back and accept a loss. It was a very entertaining experience to see this at the GL Theater with Cage and the rest of the crew. 😄
